Net 2008 “Discoveries ‘08″ by Mark Finley
November 5th, 2008
Can you tell me which denomination is presenting the pre-packaged satellite broadcast Net 2008 “Discoveries ‘08″ by Mark Finley?
The Discoveries ‘08 website this denomination uses to promote these supposedly “Christ-centered biblical presentations“ to the public tells us, “Join Mark Finley, the speaker for Hope Channel International Television, for an incredible journey through time. You will be amazed at recent archeological discoveries that confirm the truthfulness of God’s Word.”
Speaker for the Hope Channel International Televison? Is that all? Why not promote Pastor Mark Finley’s most prominent role?
How many of you know that Pastor Mark Finley is so much more than just a “speaker”! Why is this public-facing denominational website afraid to boldly proclaim that Pastor Mark Finley is Vice President of the Seventh-day Adventist’s General Conference, and in charge of evangelism and Adventist television?
What is the Seventh-day Adventist agenda? Quoting from their book, “Answers to Objections” the question is posed:
When Seventh day Adventist ministers go into a community to hold a series of lectures, they conceal, at the first, their denominational connection. They thus hope to draw into their audience people who would never come if they knew that Seventh day Adventists were conducting the meetings. This is a form of deception. There is something the matter with a religious body that is afraid to identify itself as soon as it begins to carry on any activity in a community. (Answers to Objections, Francis Nichol, page 209)
What is this denomination’s offical response?
It has undoubtedly been true in years past that Adventists could not have gotten a crowd out to hear them in certain cities, at least, if they had revealed their identity at the outset. But we think that that proves, not the weakness of the Adventist case, but the strength of distorted ideas founded on fanciful myths. The other side of the picture is that many people, after they have attended Adventist meetings for a time, frankly admit that they have changed their ideas about us and are glad that they first came to the meetings not knowing who was conducting them. (Answers to Objections, Francis Nichol, page 209)
Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Kevin Morgan states it like this:
I believe you are referring to your distaste for our not always stating up front who we are before we gain a hearing in public meetings. As I have pointed out, your personal taste about “transparency” would invalidate many methods of both Jesus and the Apostle Paul. It would also betray the lives of God’s people under persecution. Honesty doesn’t require telling everything you know up front. (Kevin Morgan, SDA Pastor)
Here we have a denomination where “the end justifies the means”, where they teach their pastors that there are benefits to concealing their Seventh-day Adventist identity. What other denomination goes to these lengths to hide their identity until curious and unsuspecting visitors are “hooked”? Is this the way Jesus taught? Why are they afraid to clearly state that this is a set of meetings used to promote the unique heterodox beilefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The Seventh-day Adventist church has a well-developed proselytizing program of which Net 2008 is merely one venue. They specialize in converting people who already have some background in Christianity but who are not well-grounded in personal knowledge of the Bible by weaving their unique doctrines and private biblical interpretations into normal-sounding Christian words.
Here is something I’m sure that they won’t tell you in these meetings. The June 1976 issue of Ministry Magazine, the official publication for Seventh-day Adventist ministers has a rather enlightening article. The title of the article, beginning on page 7, is “What It Means to Be Part of — The Highest Authority That God Has Upon Earth”. (http://www.adventistarchives.org/docs/MIN/MIN1976-06/index.djvu?djvuopts&page=7)
At a General Conference worship, Jan. 9, 1976, Seventh-day Adventist General Conference President Robert H. Pierson said:
When you and I joined the General Conference family something special happened to us. When we begin work in the General Conference office we become part of what inspiration describes as God’s highest authority on earth. … All of us are something special in God’s sight. Our relationship to our church, to the world field, to one another, and to the work entrusted to us is unique. We are part of ‘the highest authority that God has on earth.’… This office is the headquarters of our Commanding Officer — the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. These three buildings are not ordinary buildings…. These buildings constitute a consecrated place where God, through His appointed servants —you, me — directs His worldwide work. … As those of us here on the General Conference staff continue our unique service for Him, let us remember that we are daily, hourly, momentarily a part of a group of leaders that constitute the highest authority of God upon earth…
I guess the Baptists, Lutherans, Methodists, Evangelicals and others are not part of the Body of Christ? And what about the great reformers and preachers of the past that we studied about in our Bible classes?
A triumphalistic church and a triumphalistic leadership will not be quick to repent and to openly acknowledge mistakes. Unqualified admission that mistakes have been made are rare in Adventism. A thoughtful observer could not but see that this Rome-like ecclesiology springs from a soteriology of the same character.
This happens to be the same denomination that teaches that Satan offered to help Jesus with the plan of salvation.
As soon as the long fast of Christ commenced in the wilderness, Satan was at hand with his temptations. He came to Christ, enshrouded in light, claiming to be one of the angels from the throne of God, sent upon an errand of mercy to sympathize with him, and to relieve him of his suffering condition. He tried to make Christ believe that God did not require him to pass through self-denial and the sufferings he anticipated; that he had been sent from Heaven to bear to him the message that God only designed to prove his willingness to endure.
Satan told Christ that he was only to set his feet in the blood-stained path, but not to travel it. Like Abraham he was tested to show his perfect obedience. He also stated that he was the angel that stayed the hand of Abraham as the knife was raised to slay Isaac, and he had now come to save his life; that it was not necessary for him to endure the painful hunger and death from starvation; he would help him bear a part of the work in the plan of salvation. (Review and Herald, August 4, 1874)
Seventh-day Adventism teaches that Jesus could have failed his assignment. SDA prophetess Ellen White tells us that Jesus was on probation. Who was his “probation officer”?
“Christ On Probation – For a period of time Christ was on probation. He took humanity on himself, to stand the test and trial which the first Adam failed to endure. Had he failed in His test and trial, He would have been disobedient to the voice of God, and the world would have been lost.” (SDA Bible Commentary, Volume 5, p. 1082; Signs of the Times
This same denomination teaches that:
Those who accept the Saviour, however sincere their conversion, should never be taught to say or to feel that they are saved. This is misleading. (Christ Object Lessons, page 155)
As long as man is full of weakness–for of himself he cannot save his soul–he should never dare to say, “I am saved.” (Selected Messages, vol 1, page 314)
God’s Word tells us:
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God: that ye may know that ye have eternal life… 1 John 5:13
This is the same denomination that teaches that man “saves” God. The reason given for the Adventist Investigative Judgment, which they teach began in 1844 (but has only been revealed to God’s “Remnant Church“, the Seventh-day Adventist Church), is to “vindicate the character of God“. In the process of salvation, paradoxically, God is at once redeemer and redeemed. Seventh-day Adventism’s salvation lies in grasping this truth.
To be sure, God does not need to investigate the records in order to learn or to determine who is eligible to be saved. It is for the benefit of all created beings that the facts with respect to each person’s fate should be known, as an assurance to all that justice has been done and as a guarantee of the eternal stability of divine government. The Bible writers speak of “books” in which God keeps a record of character — of good and evil deeds as measured by a person’s knowledge of, and voluntary relationship to, divine grace and God’s revealed will. SDA Bible Commentary, Volume 10, page 669
In the remnant Satan will meet his defeat. The charge that the law cannot be kept will be met and fully refuted….A serious situation arose in heaven when Satan made his charges against God. The accusations in reality constituted an impeachment. (M.L. Andreasen The Sanctuary Service, Review and Herald, 1969 printing, p. 315)
Notice that, according to Seventh-day Adventism, it is the Seventh-day Adventist Church (God’s “Remnant Church”) and not Christ, that defeats Satan. According to Seventh-day Adventism, Christ can’t come until the Seventh-day Adventist Church produces sinless members of this “remnant church” — meaning the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Seventh-day Adventists — not God — determine when Christ’s Second Coming takes place!
In order for God to sustain His contention, it is necessary for Him to show that He has not been arbitrary, that the law is not harsh and cruel in its requirements, but contrawise, that it is holy, just, and good, and that men can keep it. It is necessary for God to produce at least one man who has kept the law. In the absence of such a man, God loses and Satan wins. The outcome therefore hinges on the production of one or more who keep the commandments of God. On this God has staked His government. (M.L. Andreasen The Sanctuary Service, Review and Herald, 1969 printing, p. 316)
In the last generation God gives the final demonstration that men can keep the law of God and that they can live without sinning. God leaves nothing undone to make the demonstration complete. The only limitation He puts on Satan is that he may not kill the saints of God. He may tempt them, he may harass and threaten them; and he does his best. But he fails. He cannot make them sin. They stand the test, and God puts His seal on them. Through the last generation of saints God stands fully vindicated. (M.L. Andreasen The Sanctuary Service, Review and Herald, 1969 printing, pp. 318-19)
In case you don’t understand the full import of that last statement, let’s hear it direct from Seventh-day Adventism’s prophet, Ellen White:
Seventh-day Adventism teaches that:
“Those only who through faith in Christ obey all of God’s commandments will reach the condition of sinlessness in which Adam lived before his transgression” (Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 6, p. 1118)
“At this time in the history of the world, we should have but one object in view–to gain eternal life. Every other desire should be subordinate to this. The work of regeneration must go on in every soul until perfection of character is reached; for nothing short of this will meet the mind of God.” (Manuscript 119, 1899, p. 1;”Words to Parents,” August 21, 1899; 5MR 338.2)
“Christ died to make it possible for you to cease to sin, and sin is the transgression of the law” (Review and Herald, vol. 71, No. 35, p. 1, August 28, 1894.)
“Those only who through faith in Christ obey all of God’s commandments will reach the condition of sinlessness in which Adam lived before his transgression. They testify to their love of Christ by obeying all his precepts” (Manuscript 122, 1901, quoted in the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 6, p. 1118).
“To every one who surrenders fully to God is given the privilege of living without sin, in obedience to the law of heaven. … God requires of us perfect obedience. We are to purify ourselves, even as he is pure. By keeping his commandments, we are to reveal our love for the Supreme Ruler of the universe” (Review and Herald, September 27, 1906, p. 8).
It pains me to say, my brethren, that your sinful neglect to walk in the light has enshrouded you in darkness. You may now be honest in not recognizing and obeying the light; the doubts you have entertained, your neglect to heed the requirements of God, have blinded your perceptions so that darkness is now to you light, and light is darkness. God has bidden you to go forward to perfection. Christianity is a religion of progress. Light from God is full and ample, waiting our demand upon it. Whatever blessings the Lord may give, He has an infinite supply beyond, an inexhaustible store from which we may draw. Skepticism may treat the sacred claims of the gospel with jests, scoffing, and denial. The spirit of worldliness may contaminate the many and control the few; the cause of God may hold its ground only by great exertion and continual sacrifice, yet it will triumph finally. (5T 71.1)
If we are perfect then we just saved ourselves. We don’t need Jesus. We have ceased to sin. What was the value of the work of Christ upon the cross?
But what about their other Net 2008 “Discoveries ‘08″ website – the one for Seventh-day Adventists? Why not link to it from their “public-facing” website?
Who is this denomination anyway? Aren’t Seventh-day Adventists, Christians that are just “hung up” over the Jewish Sabbath? What you find when Adventism is exposed will truly amaze you!
Cult-watch group, SeventhdayCult.com, notes:
Urgent Warning: Net 2008 “Discoveries ‘08″ by Mark Finley coming to hundreds of Adventist locations in North America!
The latest “net evangelism” series, “Discoveries ‘08″, produced by the Seventh-day Adventist denomination begins October 24, 2008, led by Mark Finley, vice president of the Adventist’s General Conference and in charge of evangelism and Adventist television.
“Discoveries ‘08″ marks the fourth series that Mark Finley has presented. “Net evangelism” meetings have resulted in 1.5 million converts into Adventism. (See Adventist “Discoveries ‘08″ website designed for the public, and designed for Adventist church members.)
The titles of the “Discoveries ‘08″ presentations:
1. Amazing Discoveries in the Lost Cities of the Dead
2. Iraq, an Ancieant King’s Dream and Our Future
3. Jesus, Jerusalem and Startling Endtime Predictions
4. Good God! Bad World! Why?
5. Echoes of Eternity
6. The Child born in the Middle East who will Change the World
7. The Rumble of a Crumbling World
8. All Eyes on the Temple
These topics all will lead into a sermon on specific Adventist doctrines, many of them differing from clear biblical teachings.“Net evangelism” involves a live series of meetings, usually held in a large Adventist church, and broadcast by satellite live to hundreds or thousands of smaller churches and meeting halls around the world. Most Adventist congregations have equipped themselves with a satellite dish and video projecter to make it possible to host a “net evangelism” event. (See video enlisting Adventist churches to join this event.)
The “Discoveries ‘08″ brochure shown was mailed to homes across North America. An area on the back is used by each local Adventist church to advertise their meetings’ times and places. (See map of meeting locations.)
Adventism is dangerous. Most converts in North America were Evangelicals or mainline Protestants–persons who did not know their Bibles well enough to protect themselves from false teachings and heresies. If you have already become confused by Adventist teachings, please call the number below.

When dealing with Seventh-day Adventists it is important to understand their agenda. If they are attempting to convince a new convert, they have a special ”checklist” of subjects that they follow to lure unsuspecting victims.
As Christian Apologetics: Research and Information Service (CARIS) notes:
“The purpose of these meetings is to introduce you gradually to the unique beliefs of Adventism and to convince you, by the end of the series, that Adventism is the only true church and that you should become a member.”
They specialize in converting people who already have some background in Christianity but who are not well-grounded in personal knowledge of the Bible by weaving their unique doctrines and private biblical interpretations into normal-sounding Christian words.
ExposingAdventism.com has an excellent set of questions that will confound any Seventh-day Adventist, and also introduce you to some of their bizarre teachings.
Below are a number of valuable links that expose what Adventism doesn’t teach you until after they have you “hooked”. As a former sixth-generation Seventh-day Adventist of 54 years, I am intimately familiar with the way Adventists think. Through the power of the Holy Spirit God led me out of this cultic system of doctrines called Seventh-day Adventism. It is my prayer that God will richly bless you and open your eyes to the “Truth Behind the Seventh-day Adventist Truth“.

- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 3 (Proof 1 - “seven times 360 revolutions of the earth in its orbit, making 2520 years.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 4 (Proof 2 - “Beginning with the captivity of Israel and the king of Judah, Manasseh, 677 B.C., must end in A.D. 1843″)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 5 (Proof 3 - “seven years’ war of Zion with her enemies, given to us in Ez. 39:9,10 … robbing those that have robbed them, 7 years, prophetic, which is 2520 common years.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 6 (Proof 4 - “proved, also, by the sign of the Sabbath … 1843, the 6000 years from Adam’s fall will be finished. Then the Anti-typical Sabbath of 1000 years will commence.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 7 (Proof 5 - “we can prove it by the typical jubilee … How long is a Jubilee of Jubilees? Ans. 49 times 50 years = 2450 years.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 8 (Proof 6 - “… 1 Maccabees 8, 9. This league was confirmed and ratified, and the Grecian kingdom ceased to rule over God’s people B.C. 158 years. Then add 158 to 1842, and we have 2000 years, or two days; as Peter says …”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 9 (Proof 7 - “70 weeks of years being cut off from 2300 days, makes these days years; and 490 years being fulfilled in A.D. 33, leaves 1810 years to the fulfilment of the vision, which added to 33 makes 1843, when the Sanctuary will be cleansed, and the people of God justified.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 10 (Proof 8 - “was carried to Babylon, B.C. 677. Thus they continued to be a people scattered, by the kings of the earth, until they fled into the wilderness in A.D. 538, which makes 1215 years.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 11 (Proof 9 - “The number 1335 days, from the taking away of Rome Pagan, A.D. 508, to set up Rome Papal, and the reign of Papacy, is 1290 days, which was exactly fulfilled in 1290 years, being fulfilled in 1798. This proves the 1335 days to be years, and that Daniel will stand in his lot in A.D. 1843.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 12 (Proof 10 - “This dragon power began its power over the saints when the league was made with him, B.C. 158, — and will end in 1842. Then the third day will begin 1843.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 13 (Proof 11 - “These five months began when the Turks made incursions into the Greek territories, according to Gibbon, in the year 1299, on the 27th day of July. 5 months is 150 years, 5 x 30 = 150. This trumpet ended in 1449.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 14 (Proof 12 - “two witnesses being clothed in sackcloth 1260 years … This time began with Papacy, 538, and ended in 1798″)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 15 (Proof 13 - “in the year A.D. 538; and was in the wilderness 1260 years, until 1798, when free toleration was granted in the kingdoms in the Papal territory.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 16 (Proof 14 - “power was given to the Pope by Justinian, A.D. 538, and lasted until the Pope was carried into captivity, and his power abolished, in the year 1798.”)
- The Key to Understanding 1844 - Part 17 (Proof 15 - “connected with the people of God by league; beginning B.C. 158, add 666 years, will bring us to A.D. 508, when the daily was taken away. Then add Daniel 12:12, the 1335 to 508, makes the year 1843.”)
